Golf Courses in Fife

Scotland

Fife is the kingdom of golf. The Old Course at St Andrews is the game's spiritual home — the most famous 18 holes in the world. New, Jubilee and Eden courses on the same links provide alternatives; Kingsbarns, Dumbarnie Links and Crail Balcomie are among Scotland's finest. The Fife Coast is a golf pilgrimage every serious player must make.

Anstruther

Our philosophy is that we treat all of our guests as members and a truly warm ‘Enster’ welcome awaits all visiting golfers. This was reflected in 2019 when we made the final 4 shortlisted clubs for "Best Scottish 9 hole club" at the Scottish Golf Awards which is voted for solely by the general public. In March 2023 we were voted joint runner up by the East Fife Sports Council in the "Club Development Award" which was down to the hard work of our dedicated team who run not only the Junior section but who have also taken golf to the local schools to promote the club and the sport. The course is located 9 miles south of St Andrews and stretches along the shoreline between Anstruther & Pittenweem. The spectacular views over Anstruther Harbour and out to the Isle of May, Bass Rock & over toward

Balcomie Links Centuries of golf has been played over these beautiful old links; long before the days of formal rules, mechanised mowers and metal cups. Much of the course as it is enjoyed today was laid out in 1895 by the master himself, Old Tom Morris. Balcomie is one of Scotland's golfing gems, it's a must-play course for members and visitors alike. Craighead Links It is no accident that members play Craighead as much as our old course. Golf was first played on the East Links, North Berwick in the 17th century, although a nine hole course did not come into being until 1894. It was extended to 18 holes in 1906 with a design provided by five times Open Champion, James Braid and his design partner Ben Sayers. Suiting players of all abilities the course is challenging, but fair. It is 6,275 yards (Par 70) for men off the medal tees and a 5,773 yards (Par 73) for ladies. The Glen is an all year round course and is rarely closed due to inclement weather, playing normal greens and tees throughout the year.

Leven Thistle Golf Club

Fife

In the annals of golf, 1867 was an interesting year in and around Leven. In that year, the Innerleven Club deserted the links of Dubbieside to commence play on the "popular Leven links" and the Thistle Golf Club was formed the same year. The club was instituted with the view of encouraging a love for the game among artisans. The artisans of Leven had played golf between Scoonie and the Mile Dyke long before 1867, but the movement of that year was the first attempt to form a club which was to establish the same relationship with Innerleven as the St Andrews Club had with the Royal and Ancient. Team golf has always been held in high regard at Leven Thistle GC and evidence of this is the fine collection of photographs on display in the clubhouse. In particular, the club has a very close assoc

New Golf Club St Andrews

Fife

A warm welcome to The New Club Founded in 1902, The New Golf Club is one of the most prestigious in St Andrews. The formation of a new club with its own premises - at a time when the only golf clubhouse in town was exclusive to R&A members - was enthusiastically supported. Along with the eight local businessmen who can be credited with the Club's creation, Tom Morris was a key supporter. Old Tom regularly frequented the Club and it was here that he had the accident which would lead to his death. The Club has developed and grown much over the last century and more.'

Opened in 1922, the course was designed by Augusta national co-creator Dr Alister MacKenzie and offers a little taste of Augusta in the Kingdom of Fife. Nine of the course's eighteen fairways are crossed by burns which come into play from the tees and approach shots, calling for accuracy and good course management skills. Pitreavie also has a number of sloping putting surfaces, some of which are quite testing. Mackenzie’s influence can be seen across the course; especially in the double and triple-tiered greens, which are not slow either. Get on the wrong side of one of these and you could be in four-putt territory!

In 1891 Scoonie Golf course started when wives of the members who played over Leven Links expressed an interest in playing golf. In that era there was no possibility of the ladies being given playing rights on the Links so a piece of land adjacent to the Scoonie burn was acquired and had a nine hole course built known as the Leven Ladies. This course was extended to twelve holes the following year and then at a later date to fifteen holes. This continued until April 1932 when Leven Town Council took it over as a Municipal golf course open to any players. In early 1936 an additional 67.5 acres was acquired on the high ground to the south east of the town and James Braid, who originated from Earlsferry, came up from Walton Heath to bring his golfing design prowess to the fairly tight acreage
