Why Northern Ireland is a Golf Pilgrimage

Royal County Down

Consistently ranked the world's greatest golf course, Royal County Down in Newcastle sits beneath the Mourne Mountains on the shores of Dundrum Bay. The challenge of the course matches its extraordinary beauty. Visitor tee times are available on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays — booking ahead is essential.

The Causeway Coast

Royal Portrush — 2019 and 2025 Open Championship venue — Portstewart Strand Course, Castlerock and Ballycastle are all within 30 miles of each other on the stunning Causeway Coast. This is some of the finest links golf accessible to visitors anywhere in the world.

Value & Accessibility

Beyond the flagship venues, Northern Ireland offers remarkable value. Excellent parkland and links courses throughout Counties Down, Antrim, Londonderry and Armagh charge £20–£60 for visitor rounds — less than many average English parkland courses. The whole country is easily navigable by car in a long weekend.

Getting There

Belfast is easily reached by air from all UK airports, with flights from London taking under 90 minutes. The city is a convenient base — Royal County Down is 30 miles south, Royal Portrush 60 miles north. Car hire and accommodation across all budgets are readily available.
